It's not God of War 4, and it's not a reboot: it's God of War for PS4. Released on April 20, 2018, for the PlayStation 4 console, it is the eighth installment in the God of War series , the eighth chronologically, and the sequel to 2010's God of War III The story is a new direction for the series, as it is loosely based on Norse mythology —all previous games were based on Greek mythology Series protagonist Kratos returns as the main character, and he now has a son named Atreus.
The gameplay comes to fans from PlayStation Underground, who demonstrates how Kratos deals with the unruly creatures of the forest, such as trolls, wolves, Draugers, and more. But what we do know is that combat is based on prioritising enemies, and certain enemies are even invulnerable to the Leviathan Axe.
Thankfully, Kratos has inherited Faye's hefty Leviathan Axe, a powerful ice-based weapon that can be used in close-quarters combat and thrown for ranged attacks. The last God of War title to be released was God of War 3: Remastered, which arrived on the PS4 in July 2015.
First and foremost Kratos is a father again, but this time he has a son instead of a daughter. We're carrying the mythology we've created with God of War and bringing it into Norse mythology. The wait is almost over, boys and girls — the massively revamped God of War heads to PS4 and PS4 Pro from 20 April.
Sony weren't keen on another God of War, but Cory Barlog and the SSM team convinced them this is what they wanted to make. Chances are good, given Kratos' history of god-killing and the fact that Ragnarok translates to "The Doom of the Gods," but it's still a little soon to say.
When asked about if God of War on PS4 would receive any DLC expansions, the game's director, Cory Barlog, said that he likes "to tell a complete story and include all of my ideas from the start." That doesn't mean it's impossible we'll see God of War DLC, but it sounds like it's not in the plan at the moment.
God of War will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro on April 20th. God of War began by having Kratos fight the Hydra , God of War 2 had him facing off against the Colossus of Rhodes and God of War 3 starts off with Kratos slapping Poseidon around something fierce.
With just over a month until God of War is released, Sony Santa Monica invited us to play the game for the very first time, and let me get right to the point: Fans of the franchise will love the more measured, thoughtful approach. Are you waiting for the new God of War of PS4?
Set in the realm of Norse brutal Greek mythology, God of War III is a single-player game that allows players to take on the climatic role of the ex-Spartan warrior, Kratos, as he scales through the intimidating heights of Mt. Olympus and the dark depths of Hell to seek revenge on those who have betrayed him.
Together with his son Atreus, the pair will venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfill a deeply personal quest. Needless to say, this isn't one of those God of War games in which you think you're going to plow through within a matter of hours.
A new God of War video has been released showing a boss fight with one of the trolls, and delving a bit deeper into the exploration side of the game. A year after the initial announcement of the game, Sony showcased a brand new five-minute gameplay trailer, giving fans an idea of what to expect in terms of combat and travel.
Combat in God of War 2018 feels — and it's strange to be using this word in the context of a God of War game — more realistic in some senses. I didn't want another God of War either until I seen it a soft reboot, almost like a new series. God of War will launch on April 20, exclusively on PlayStation 4.
